Assemblage Art or sculptural collage is the art form of utilizing a variety of found objects, or common everyday articles and objects that are repurposed into Art. My goal has been to utilize as many plastic packaging materials as possible into my Artworks, demonstrating that waste can be converted into visually interesting forms of Art and Sculpture. I have long been fascinated with the circle. To me it is the most perfect geometric form, in the universe, in nature, in structures and in so many things that surround all of us.
The great Oglala Lakota or Teton Sioux leader Black Elk said several powerful things that can resonate with all of us:
“The power of the world always works in circles, and everything tries to be round”.
“The Universe is circles within circles and everything is one circle, and those family circles connect together and make a community, and the community makes its circle where it lives on the Earth”
Some of the works seen here are based on microscopic aquatic algae and planktons, Diatoms and Radiolarians, many of which are structured in a round or circular manner. Their forms are complex and visually interesting. The importance of these organisms is immeasurable as they provide a significant amount of oxygen that we are all dependent on. My other goal is to open eyes and start people thinking about how insignificant objects can be transformed into art and not sent to the landfill.
